Ursprunglich beabsichtigte die Arbeit zu klaren, welche begunstigenden und hemmenden Faktoren fur das Zustandekommen ehrenamtlichen Enga- ments bei Gewerkschaften rekonstruiert werden konnen. Im Forschungsprozess entwickelte sich daraus die Frage: Wie kommt es dazu, dass Menschen sich einer Gewerkschaft anschliessen und inwieweit verandern sie dadurch sich selbst und zugleich die Gewerkschaft? Antwort auf diese Fragen gibt das in dieser Studie generierte theoretische Erklarungsmodell zur Rekrutierungs- und Bindungspraxis in der sozialen Welt der Gewerkschaften. Diese gegenstandsbezogene Theorie verdankt sich ein- seits der methodologischen Einsicht in die Begrenztheit des eigenen Frageho- zonts und wie wenig er mir bei der Erforschung der komplexen sozialen Wi- lichkeit der Gewerkschaften von Nutzen sein wurde.
